Hi

i am asking this question for a friend

she was discharged from BR 3 years ago, should she of contacted creditors to adjust her credit file, does it make a difference. She still dosn't want any credit but would like to have a normal account with a debit card, and possibly get a mortgage in 4 years time.

any ideas

thanks

Hello there,

I was just discharged yesterday and I am now writing to creditors so that my Credit File can be updated.

She will need to prove that she is no longer bankrupt - unfortunately she will not be able to show this from the Insolvency Register as it gets taken off 3 months after your discharge date - however it is worth a look. Also, she could apply for a Certificate of Discharge which costs £60 from the court she went bankrupt at. You could just copy this and send it with a covering letter to all of the creditors, they will in turn update their files and in doing this her credit report will also be updated.

She could also send a copy of the certificate to the three credit agencies as well.... Experian, Equifax and CallCredit.

Or she could just get her Credit Report now, and just check to see what information they have on her and whether they have updated it anyway!

Hope that helps...

Hi Sahara

I was just about to say the same. I would def get copies of the files first and see who you need to contact then send off the letters to them, there are adresses on the backs of the files to whom to send queries about the credit reports too.

Best of luck to you and your friend

Jo

Good luck with getting the creditors to update their files - I'm finding that some do it straight away (the ones I wasn't expecting to!) and the others are determined to make it as difficult as possible - Barclaycard spring to mind!

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.
