I am planning on going bankrupt shortly and am considering bank accounts. Think Banking seems a popular choice. Is it best to open this before bankruptcy? Also I notice the account is held with RBS. RBS are a creditor, can they freeze the account and funds?

the co-op basic account is very popular because of their willingness to accept bankruptees, and this account is free unlike think. empty the account your using now before going br and apply for co-op account as soon as you have been to the court. as for the rbs taking money.....theres a possibilty they may attempt to take the money pre br, but would be unable to do so afterwards....however, as its the same company, there is the possibility that they may close the account. im sure ill be rectified if im wrong...but these are my opinions and mine alone.

Hi SB4 and welcome

As Mac has said i would go with the Coop cashminder account if your able to as they seem to be the bank that as BR we can use and use without a charge, unless you had an unpaid DD then you would be charged but most banks are like that.

Think Banking only use a holding account at RBS so technically you wont be banking with them if you decided to go with Think Banking, that means that your account wont be touched as you wont actually be banking with them, its Think Bank that do.

You can open an account before BR with the Coop and from what i have seen on here those that do have not had any problems with that account when they went BR ie: not frozen, but as Mac has said i would if you open one make sure its empty on the day of BR as any funds could be taken to go towards your creditors.

After BR hearing then you can carry on using the Coop account as normal.

I did not open mine till after we went BR but the choice is yours.

Best of luck.

Welcome to the forum sb4.

I applied for a Co-op cashminder account a few months back and have not gone bankrupt yet. They were very helpful over the phone and in my local branch. I have all of my money paid in there as well as all of my DD's. I went into my local branch last week and advised when I was going to court and they were really helpful. I highly recommend them.

Kind regards,
Amanda
