                      | Hi Michelle,
Most banks have to offer a basic banking facility, however if you owed them money as part of your bankruptcy don't expect them to help.

I have always found Nationwide or Abbey National to be very good with my clients.

 Hope this helps,

 Brett

                      | Hi Michelle.m
I understand that Abbey no longer give bank accounts to undischarged bank accounts so not worth trying that one.

I know that the COOP do offer bank accounts to people in bankruptcy. The account is called a CASHMINDER account, it offers direct debit / standing orders / online banking and gives you a Visa Electron card. The number you need is 0845 602 7057.

 Hope it helps

                      | I would second the Co-op, only downside to co-op is they dont have many branches and you can only do limite transactions at post offices.
Natwest is always a good one and there account is called a Natwest account.

Think you are correct Paul about the Abbey they have pulled the account and no longer offered.

                      | Barclays Cashcard account is good, will enable standing orders & direct debit - also suggest that you obtain a prepaid mastercard for flexibility
 All the best

                      | It is a very stressful thing opening a bank account after Br and you actually expect to be escorted off the premises by armed guards with a firm "Don't come here again".
I have found that over the last 5 months the following.

Abbey - wo't give a bank account to an undischarged Br
Natwest are getting a little funny and there is a V good chance that even a cash card account will be closed after Br.

 Barclays - same as Natwest.

Coop have been 100% OK with before and after BR for clients.

The thing to remember is that is your account was a standard Barclays account and they downgraded your facilities to a cash card only - they still class it as a "normal" account so this will definately be closed in Br.

Alsways better to have plan B ready as you need to make mortgage or rent payments at the end of the month plus standing orders. You don't need more grief after the event so would recommend the COOP.

                      | If your looking for a bank with plenty of branches then as I said before have never seen a problem with Nationwide, although many of my clients used Abbey, it appears others have had problems. Woolwich were always the best, however this all changed when Barclays took over and Natwest can be very difficult.

                      | hello,
as i declaired my self bankrupt last week, my bank accout with halifax was frozen with out me knowing... i tried to open a new account in NATWEST, thats the first time i have ever felt ashamed of what i have done, i was made to feel like a little child.

I some how came accross this site, and people seem to be given a 90% to the CO-OP group, and tried the CO-OP and they will give me a decition within 2-3 working days...

Is there any other banks that will help the bankrupt?

                      | Hi Ang
did you sort the car out before you went bankrupt - if not it is too late to change it yourself as it is technically owned by the OR now.

                      | Hi Ang,
Barclays are fine if it is cash card account - only last week I had confirmation from Barclays Legal Notices unit that two of myclients accounts would continue in the usual manner not withstanding Barclaycard debt written off in Bankruptcy. One word of caution in general if account is opened prior to bankruptcy ensure that at the time of bankruptcy only small balance held say under £5 ( but ensure that not overdrawn )

                      | Hi Alan,
 Welcome to the forum,

Barclaycard are a different company to Barclays so it would not matter if monies were owed to Barclaycard at point of bankruptcy, howvever if you owe money on a barclays account they will not supply a basic account.

Alan is correct in what he is saying reagding the timing of opening an account.
