I am going through the petition stages but wondered if anyone here had knowledge about living abroad and going through the process.

I earn in US Dollars and live in the USA now on a visa, employed by a US company. Credit here is via a different system then the uk I have now got a pretty good credit score. Will declaring bankcruptcy change this? Certainly none of my other negative or positive actions in the uk have affected it.

Also, the process states that credit can not be optained during the next 12 months. Is the wording of this rule specific to the UK? The reason I ask is everything here is based on some type of credit agreement (gym membership, rent, etc). If I am still credit worthy would I be breaking the law to use this?

And finally, do I need to provide US bank details given this is outside the UK? Things like assets also could prove interesting, if they are seizable how will this be facilitated? Does the court system have a local representative in the USA to handle this?

So many questions but I see very little information online regarding us ex-pats. There must be more out there feeling the pain.

To file for BR from abroad, you will either have to come back and do it in person, or appoint a family member/friend as Power of Attorney, and they can do it for you.

I don't know if it will affect your credit etc in the States, but I am sure one of the experts will be along to answer that.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time
