Thought I would post the I & E that the OR has agreed.
I get income of approx £1628 so got IPA of £277 per month. Here is what I asked for. They did not give me breakdown of what they accepted but based on below they have not allowed me £31 so I assume it was the Satellite/Internet connection as the 66% works out then.
Really pleased as I think they have been quite generous. Here comes the next 36 months!!!!
Rent £495 Council Tax £75 Heating and lighting £43 Water £23 Telephone £30 Housekeeping £215 (live alone but have Coeliac so food more expensive) Essential Travel expenses £83 Clothing £50 Prescriptions £9 Cats fees (2 cats) Injections plus insurance £29 Home contents insurance £8 Meals for work £30 Holidays £30 Satellite/internet £31 TV Licence £12 Dentist £15 Social £30 Emergencies/incidentals £30
I think they been quite generous but maybe cos I was going to get IPA anyway? Reckon they more particular when you just nearing the £99 threshold..

That's good news Frosie. As you say the OR's seem to be stricter if you are close to the £99 threshold. Allowing you Social and Emergencies/incidentals is very generous but your travel expenses are quite low compared to someone with a car who has to pay tax, insurance, MoT and repairs so it all seems to work out in the end.
It's good that you posted this here so that other people can check on the amounts being allowed by OR's. |

Hi Frosie,
Useful to know what you were allowed and from the look of it, you didn't do too badly.
I was allowed £250 for housekeeping, which you might think is a lot for a single person, but on my original SOA I put down for dental £10, meals at work £30, which wasn't individually itemised when the OR sent out the I&E, so I just assumed she has included this as housekeeping, hence the higher figure. I have ended up paying a IPA of £260, but I have recently had a pay rise of £90 per month, so I am going to have to send Moon Beever a new I&E, worse luck. Even so, I should still be around £30 better off each month as they can only claim up to 70% of this pay rise.

| The OR did not itemise anything so I don't know whether it was the internet etc. that he did not allow. He just detailed the amount of £277 that I will need to pay. It also gave an estimated amount of Tax I will need to pay as £227. I checked my wage slip on the income of £1628 and my tax is £313 so I need to contact them as I dont want a hefty tax bill at the end of the year if I have underpaid? I havent been issued a nil code yet. Sure this will happen in June's pay. |

I am going to have an IPA of £100 but haven't been given a breakdown of the calculations. I should have written down the conversation as we went along as I can remember some of the things EG allowed £200 for food and £ 50 for clothes but only £20 for a holiday. She thought my gas and electric were high and queried but when I said that I had based them on actual bills /expenditure and could send copies she seemed tobe ok and moved on to the next item I am more than happy with my treatment. ? Tax I went BR in March so my tax is unaffected but my friend is doing it this month and really hyper re work finding out. No problem ,nothing iffy just the gossip .What answer can she give when they query/nosey why tax code has changed as I amsure there must be other reasons for this happening

It should only be the HR/Finance Dept that know the tax code has been changed and these departments should be used to keeping confidential/personal information quiet so should not query the tax code. If they do your friend could just make a joke out of it and say that she has had enough of paying tax so is taking a break or something similar. If people push for the reason then she can either lie and say that there were some overpayment of taxes earlier in her career or say she is not too sure as the tax code is decided by HMRC.
The Finance/HR dept shouldn't be discussing tax information with anyone within the company. If they do tell you friend to have a quiet word with the HR Manager and say that due to personal issues her tax code has changed but she doesn't want this information discussed. Most HR people are pretty decent and understand these things. |

I agree with your comments re HR/confidentiality but I am not sure that her set up has a separate HR dept., It is not a big govt dept., It is in between a private care home and a govt., funded one. Your comments are the best option eg 'I dont know why' 'central govt is a mystery' as it is !!
