Evening folks, it's been a while since last posting.
Just thought I'd let you know that today both myself and my wife received a letter from the Insolvency Service "Notice to Bankrupt Enclosing a Sealed Copy of the Early Discharge Notice"
So, as from the 21st May, I'm a discharged bankrupt!
All of this was made possibly purely down to the advice given to me personally and to other users of this forum, with the only actual legal advice being an initial meeting with the CAB to say "yes, bankruptcy is really your best option". It was difficult to start with however in the most part we found it liberating and made money-management seem far easier. We are now living comfortably with absolutely no credit (or debt!) and more importantly the future is looking very bright for our son, now 9 months old.

So, a huge thank you to everyone on these forums and long may it continue during this time of hardship for us all.

Congratulations, there seems to be quite a few people getting an ED now so hopefully I'll be the same

Oh just one quick question. Although we're more than happy with the Co-Op and their banking facilities, not having a branch within 20 miles is rather inconvenient and now we've been discharged I'd like to get an account that is, obviously with noone we've had problems with financially (looking at Nationwide). Is it possible to open such an account easily when discharged, has anyone got experience of this?

I tried to get a Nationwide Step account when I was BR and they told me to come back when discharged so you could try them. I am not too sure about other banks but any creditors would probably still be reluctant to provide you with a bank account.

The Step Account is from Natwest, and they could be worth a try as I have heard of people being able to open an account with them.

Nationwide are no longer BR friendly, so I'm not sure how you'd get on now you're discharged.

To be honest I was happy with the Co-op and I didn't miss having a branch as you can do everything at the Post Office.

No worries! When I had an account with Natwest I asked my mum to pay some money in for me. I filled out a paying in slip and gave her the money, which she tried to pay into Nationwide!
