Hi,
Can anybody tell me the best way way to open one of these accounts (can it be done online, by phone etc), how long the process takes and how easy it is to do.

Also, how much ID and proof of address do they ask for, are they very strict on this? My passport and d.licence is in my maiden name and don't want to get it changed right now unless I have to!

Thanks

Telephoning them is probably the easiest way (0845 602 7057) but you can open one in a branch as well. If you phone they will tell you there and then whether you can have the account. Sometimes accounts are deferred as they want some form of ID. This happened with my account presumably as I am not on the electoral register so I took my passport down to a local branch.

It can take up to 14 days to receive the account details/electron card. If you are asked to provide proof of ID then it will need to be in the name of the account but you can provide utility bills so as long as they are in your married name it should be ok.

I opened a cashminder account over the phone told them I was about to go bankrupt and they said that was fine. I needed no proof of identification or address, took roughly 10 days to receive card and pin number.

we opened our coop account in branch. We just had to tell then a name address, bank account number and bank name. They wanted to know how long we had lived at our address.Everything was verified by the computer. We did not have to show any ID.They then told us that they had to do a fraud check which would take 48 hours. The whole prosess took 7 days in total.
