Hi could someone please tell me what happens to contracts such as mobile phone or broadband etc?? I understand that I won't be able to keep things like this but will the companies not state that I owe money if the contracts are broke early?? And in this case were would you list companies like this on the bankruptcy forms??

i was made bancrupt a week ago and when i spoke to my OR (actually not the Or itself but just an ?examiner or whatever then will forward my papers to OR ) all my I&E was all approved i put £70 in my celphone then £ 15 in my internet .. so that will be part of your expenditures and you can continue using it .. .my suggestions regarding your I&E is you make a separate sheet of paper and list all you fixed and the essential outgoing because the one in the bancruptcy form is not very precise .. hope this help

When I was mad BR 2 weeks ago, I spoke to my OR about this and was told pretty much the same as bob. You aren't obliged to end your contracts, but I believe the company has the right to terminate the contract?

Why would they have any reason to terminate your contracts? If you don't owe them any money, don't tell them you are bankrupt, we didn't. We carried on with BT broadband, hubby has a Vodafone mobile contact, we did not tell them we were bankrupt and neither did the OR as far as I am aware

If the company do find out, they may well terminate the contract as most do state this in their terms and conditions.

If not, then just continue as you are. You'll probably have to stick with the same company for a few years though.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time

I have a mobile phone which, although I did not list it on the SOA as I was up to date with payments, I did give the details to the OR examiner during my telephone interview. He said the company may end the contract due to BR. I have read the terms and conditions and that verifies this. I, however, since BR on 7th April, had problems with my phone company in that they have made mistakes with my "free" minutes etc. one helpful person at the company, after two very unhelpful people,is trying to sort it it has been going on for nearly a week. I am now hoping to end the contract. I spoke to my OR examiner today to see if I ended it whether it would be included in the BR. I need to send the Terms and conditions to him. He thinks there is a possiblity it could be included but for me to wait until he has read the terms and conditions. I have not cancelled the Direct Debit and have made calls/texts since 7th April (but no usage since my telephone conversation with OR office today). If it was included, would the fact that I have made monthly payments on time etc. be seen as preferential payment to a creditor if they ultimately get included in the BR? The OR examiner said it does appear that the OR has yet to write to the phone company to inform them of my BR so they may terminate the contract anyway once they are informed by the OR which actually would be a godsend for me.
