Hi,
Usually within a week or two the calls and letters start.

my calls usually start within days of missing a payment. Also if its a credit card at the same bank as your current account they can take the arrears you owe them straight out of this account! Its happened to me, they took half my wages out to pay themselves, so was left short for the rest of the month. Now when i get paid, i make sure i pay the rent and council tax first, and transfer the rest to my internet saver account. They cant touch this. |

I think they can only take out the payment if you have a DD set up. The only one's to do that to me were HSBC with our loan. Barclays never did it with the credit card.
Doesn't matter if you cancel the DD or SO, they will still take it out.

Nicdavies is right in that if you have a debt with the same company hat you have your bank accout, they can have a right of set off between accounts |

It was only HSBC that did that with us, and only for the loan, not my credit card.
Barclaycard never even touched our account.

Thinking about it, Halifax did do that as well - I had £34 in my saving account which was used for child benefit payments, and they took this to offset against a £20,000 debt!
How embarrassed was I when I went to withdraw it!

I'd be honest.. been living off overdraft for the last couple of years and would they take money from the overdraft facility to pay for the loans... they are all with the same bank?
Thanks again for all the replies. |
