hi all, we went br on the 16th march 09 and had the phone interview with the or's assistant 2 weeks later....nothing was mentioned about an ipa although he did say that he would be sending out another form for my i+e because we wouldnt be allowed some of the things that we listed, which we never recieved.
we did get a letter 2 weeks ago regarding the car ie, tax and insurance information which we send straight away and the car has since been made exempt (to our surprise) we are reluctant to contact the or (dont want to tempt fate) but this seems like a long time to wait to hear whether or not we will be getting an ipa, our friend went br the same day and he recieved his ipa around 2 months ago!
we were borderline as to whether we would get an ipa as the or would have had to reduce our original i+e by around £300 to be able to enforce an ipa.....anyone else waited this long?? (4 months)

I would just leave things be at the moment if I were you. You may end up discharged and then you would not get one

Our OR told us at the interview that there would be no IPA, then they rang and said they wanted me to claim benefits and they would take the IPA out of hubby's wage, I tried to claim but was not entitled to anything, I rang the OR office and told them. We did not hear anything more 5 months until hubby filled in an I&E form for early discharge, we put EXACTLY the same things down as the orginal form and the OR sent an IPA to sign of £52 per month! We had £20 surplus, and that was not including xmas, birthdays, holidays etc. We questioned it and had to send proof in of our bills, etc. Next thing we knew, we had both been given early discharge

sometimes no news is good news

Two or three months is about the norm for hearing about an IPA. The letter regarding the car shows that the OR is conducting the investigation and it is moving along so you may hear something in the next couple of weeks. If you are not liable for an IPA you won't hear anything as the OR only sends out a letter if you do need to pay an IPA. Reducing the I&E by £300 in order for your to be liable for an IPA is pretty extreme unless some of your expenses are very high so it sounds unlikely that you will get an IPA.

It may be that your OR was on holiday, sick or out of the office for a while, which is why things are moving slowly. This happened to me and my case was transferred to another OR. I had my interview 10 days after declaring BR and then nothing happened for 6 weeks. Another OR contacted me to say that my original OR was out of the office (sick??) and she was taking over the case. A few days later I received the OR's pack and then a week later the IPA forms arrived.

I wouldn't call the OR and just remain quiet and hope you don't get an IPA.

Hi Everyone

I don't think that it's unusually long time and I'd also say that because of the increased number of bankruptcies, it's taking longer for cases to be administered.

If you've made a reasonable review of your income and expenditure and stick to your budget, keep to one side anything you consider would be required to be paid into an IPA just in case. If you feel that there isn't any surplus to offer but an IPA is received, just keep a note of anything you think you pay more for so that you can qualify this and speak to the OR.

I was told when I had my interview that I would have an IPA, but I was able to keep all my surplus until my first payment 3 months later.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

The IPA lasts for a maximum of 36 months and only starts after you sign the forms. ie it is not backdated to the start of the bankruptcy so dont worry about having to catch up. It is a good idea to keep a record of what you are actually spending as inevitably you may miss things out when put on the spot to fill in I&E forms

I actually had to chase up whether I was getting an IPA as they were unsure during phone call. Then after getting a pay rise, I then had to call them to ask again about IPA after updated I&E sent, and didnt get one. This was end of april, we went BR 3/3/09.
