if your case is straightforward, you do not need to pay anyone to help you fill the bankruptcy forms in, they may look complicated but if you just read them through slowly and take your time, you can do it yourself, I did!
I got my forms from CAB and they checked them over for me once completed and even photocopied them for free. Please don't waste £2000 paying someone to help you when you don't need to |

£2k is quite a lot of money depending upon what he is doing. Normally these companies will charge around £300 each for completing the forms.
If your case is straight forward then there is no reason that you can't do it yourselves. There is plenty of help available on this forum so I would suggest declaring BR yourselves and if it turns out that you have a difficult case that does require professional help you can speak to either Reviva UK or Jones Giles who both post on this board. |

Hi Mark.le
I agree, my BR was in May 2009 - it was a complicated case (or so i thought as it centred around two businesses and my personal debt).
I saw an Insolvency Practitioner (free interview) who said, you have no choice BR is your only way to go.
I went to the CC and got the form, booked the appointment to go before the District judge (the following morning) paid my £510 on the day - was in court 3 minutes and then went to the ORs office - spent 1 hour there and an appointment was made for june - that was 10 hours!!! (as I say a bit complex) and set for discharge may 19th 2010... Could be earlier.
No dispute it is stressful - but as already posted, by others earlier £2,000 is an awful lot to stump up.
I am not an expert, but for what it is worth, I suggest you fill out the forms yourself - if necessary go to you local CAB (if there is business debt they may not be able to assist - that is my understanding). This board is FANTASTIC and you get a real opportunity to seek advice and share experiences from others.
Deep breath and go for it and good luck, Richard

Hi
My advice would be to get the forms and have a go. They have been designed for individuals to be able to do them themselves, so to pay for help is only necessary if your case is especially complicated, but they rarely are. I do think £2,000 is on the steep side, especially as you have to then find an additional £1,020 for the court.
As Housing said, there is always help to be found on here, and it's FREE.

| As alllready stated, depends how complex, if its just personal debts then do it yourself, i nearly went with a firm and luckily the folks on here advised me against it and i never had a problem with my forms when i went to court. you can do em online or print a couple of copys and have a practice run and cab will help. |

You can fill them in online via this link:
http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/doitonline/doitonlinemenu.htm
You can save them as you go along, and alter anything which needs altering.
This forum can help you if you have any queries with them.
The glimmer gets brighter all the time

To all who have posted on here - Our (my wife and I) circumstances were complex - I was a Director and we owned a number of properties and had a considerable amount of debt- as such we used / are using an external company to assist us - there is no way we could have made it through with out their help.
So £2,000 would have been very, very cheap for us.
Saying thst if your circumstances are less complex and consist primarily of unsecured debt then the forms are designed to not trip you up, but to make it relatively straightforward to go BR.
There are plenty of people on this forum who can advise - CAB is a great place to start as well.
Hope this helps - if your circumstances are more complex then I am happy to talk about who we used. |

Hi Mark,
I wouldn't waste money getting someone else to fill out the forms for you. They are quite straight forward and as long as you can sit down somewhere for a few hours and concentrate, then you should have no problem. Obviously, if I had been involved in a business or something more complicated, then I may have needed help but as my debts were just personal credit and loan debts and I had no property or assets as such, then it was very straightforward.
I would definately try and do it yourself rather than part with a large amount of money when it might not be neccessary.
Good luck

| we had a house in negative equity (the main bulk of our debt and reason for bankruptcy was the shortfalls from the house) and 2 cars on HP, one loan and one credit card and 2 catalogue accounts, and we managed to fill all the forms in, we just spent time every evening going through them. |
