freinds position:
forced to resign 5 weeks ago, now claiming JSA £64.30pw but been advised it mayby withdrawn. Homeless with 2 pets at £45pcm have use of a vehicle which costs £120pcm (my home), shopping £100pcm, phone contract at £35pcm. I have a loan which is around £7000 at £190pcm. As you can see my outgoing exceed my basic means. Let alone the loan. I have had losts of interveiws and done lots of application but to know avail. I am currently at uni on my third year of my degree and a member of family has offered to pay for that to which I will be working 10hrs pw volunatary. I am currently seeking a fixed address to which I will need my saveing to secure and claim houseing benifit to cover costs. Employment is not looking good and I have taken a payment holiday on loan already. I really do not know what way to turn next. Ifeel bankruptcy or volentary insolvency may now be my only hope. I am aware that I could advise bank I am unable to make any more payments barring £1 a month untill I return to paid work. But do not wish for them to make me bankrupt or continue to get in dept. thank

Hi

If the JSA is withdrawn and if you are not getting a student loan or/and not earning more than £50pcm or getting a bursary and owe less than £15k then you can do a Debt Relief Order which is run by the citizen advice bureau, it costs alot less than bankruptcy but is still insolvency.

If I was you I would get an appointment with CAB and discuss your options including benefits.
