If they are only going for a week or two then there shouldn't be any need to inform the OR. I presume the OR has their mobile phone numbers? If so the OR can always contact them by mobile if necessary.

I didn't even think of telling the OR when I went away! Providing it's for no longer than 2 weeks it shouldn't be a problem.

I take it that it doesn't make any difference whether it's at home or abroad?

The glimmer gets brighter all the time

So long as the OR can get in contact with you (mobile) then there shouldn't be a need to tell them if you are going away (home/abroad) for a couple of weeks. If it is for a month or more than I would let the OR know your contact address but this would be more out of courtesy rather than necessity.

We went abroad for 2 weeks when bankrupt, never even thought to mention to the OR, but they did not need to contact us anyway, there were no letters or phone calls once we got home

I wouldn't worry about it, my OR takes more than 2 weeks to answer my queries!

Remember to send him a postcard
