Hi there.

Just had my interview by phone and lady was very nice and not at all judgemental. However I'm still in a state.

I forgot to tell her that there was a credit card I'd not disclosed (£350) which has written to me after seeing the Gazette.

She never queried my I&E at all, just asked how my debts were incurred, she's hopeful of an exemption on my 10 year old heap of a car (I'm a carer and both my children have disabilities (call me greedy)).

I said that I was hopeful if finding some kind of work self employed and she confirmed I can register self employed and said that as all my income is benefit related at present there wouldn't be an IPA or anything. I asked if I would hear from them again or need to do anything and she said that I'd do a new I&E in 3 months, but obviously if anything changes workwise to let them know as my benefits will change. My tax isn't affected as my business failed and currently not working (I was advised to get this over first).

However I need some advice on I&E if anyone can help....

I can DLA and CB and Carers as well as tax credits. My entire income including the DLA and CB (which i've seen is not countable) is £2357 or 1942 without it. My expediture is £2240. So I'm either £117 plus or £300 minus if the DLA and CA is disregarded. If I earned say £300 per month self employed, would I then have a surplus income and how much would it be, and how much and for how long would I enter into a IPA for.

Apologies for being long winded, but I know I need to work doing something, even if its cleaning someones dirty loo again, my children need to see an example set, I need to justify my existence and I want to provide for them at least a few of the little luxuries in life.

Thanks a million.

Hi if your income is -300 after all outgoings but you then get a job which gives you an extra 300 a month then you will be level and not get an IPA.

But if your job gave you an extra 400 instead of the 300 you mention then you would have 100 spare after all essential living costs are made and would then enter into an IPA as anything over £99 then you can go into an IPA

The IPA would be payable for 36 months depending on you still having excess money.

Glad to hear the OR's interview went well. You should get a letter regarding the car in a couple of weeks saying (hopefully) that it is exempt and you can keep it.

Even though you have to declare all of your income the OR can only count the income that isn't exempt from an IPA. This means that your I&E is currently -£300 so you could earn £399 without needing to pay an IPA.

If you did get a job you would need to inform the OR and they would ask you to complete a new I&E but you would also be able to claim for any clothing or travel expenses for the job as well.

Glad it all went ok.

As regards an IPA, I agree with what the others have said. However, I believe that if you haven't received an IPA before you are discharged, then you won't get one afterwards.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time
