And so the calls begin!
Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for previous replies to other questions - very helpful but now I have another one!
I have had a call from loan company as I have missed this months payment in order to save fees.
She was very aggresive which I expected but she said that I have to go through all my income and expenditure with her over the phone. Do I have to do this as I said no (mainly because I am at work).
She also said that I must have an Insolvency Practitioner. Is this correct as I was of the impression that it is personal choice as to whether you use one for BR process?
Please help as I am not sure what to say to them now.
Thank you!!

you do NOT have to give them your I&E, (cheeky beggars, they are) if I were you I would not speak to them at all, change your phone number
and no, you do not need an IP if you are planning on going bankrupt |

hello Srrs,
Jane1 is absolutely correct - these people who make these calls to debters are not nice people - I once asked a caller if he slept at night He soon changed his attitude!
Try to avoid speaking to them - as I have said to so many people, do what we did change your number (make sure you are ex-directory when you change though as they will find a way to track you down! It seems like they have your place of work number - if they call you there again or harrass you, ask them politely to refrain from calling you on this number and that you do not want to be subjected to this form of nuisance whilst you at your place of work (or any place come to that)
The change of telephone number should not cost you anything and could be done by this time next week - be positive and remember this forum is here to support and share experiences and the experts will give good advice and it is FREE.
Regards, Richard

Thank you all so much! (again!)
I though that was the case but wanted to check.
The woman was saying to me at the age of 26 I really shouldnt be going BR so I said that she shouldnt comment and knows nothing of my other financial difficulties. I know I probably shouldnt have but I also asked her if she was a bankruptcy expert or someone from a collections department. Funnily enough, she said she is someone from a collections department! I know they are doing a job but I dont feel they give bad advice to people.
I come on here nearly everyday and read all the great advice you guys give so felt quite proud that I could stand my ground and not answer the questions!
Thank you all, you are stars!

Hello again
good for you - keep being strong and stand your ground! She has no right to say you are 26 you should not be going BR - howe dare she!
I really do not know how some of these people sleep with the way they treat people who, if it not for us (bankrupt people), they would not have a job!! Many of them do not deserve a job - there, I should calm down now!!
If they persist with the calls to your work, speak to his or her supervisor and explain that you would rather they did not call you at work as it could prejudice your position (I am sure it will not in reality, particularly if you have a decent boss)
It is not easy dealing with debt - I did not want to face up to the fact that I was in the pooh!! When I did, I started to deal with it in the best way possible.
Again, good luck to you and keep posting if you have problems - somebody will listen and offer support/advice and that will help you get through the day - we have 4 daughters and a couple of grandchildren and one of our daughters is your age - and life can get compliated - particularly if you are on a low wage etc (End of fatherly advice!)
Regards, Richard

Change your personal phone number(s), and if she (or anyone else) calls you at work just state clearly 'I am unable to take personal calls at work' and put the phone down.
Unfortunately some creditors operate in appalling ways in how they deal with clients, stand firm give out no info other than 'I am filing for bankruptcy on.....in ...County Court' usually this has the result of the majority of creditos backing off.
Keep strong, do not get into converstaion with them and get your bankruptcy done asap, that way you will never have to deal with them again!

I changed all of my numbers that creditors had to a PAYG mobile and then left it on silent. I spoke to each creditor once to inform them that I was declaring BR and then ignored their calls.
Despite a couple of cards through my door from the MBNA debt collection people to say they would be calling on a certain day for a chat they never turned up.
Other creditors also sent several letters as I wouldn't answer their calls but nothing came of it. I ended up missing 3 payments to all of my creditors before declaring BR so missing one isn't a major issue. |

changing numbers is a good idea and definitely something I will consider.
I have worked out all my finances now and will have enough money by 15th October - my local court only deals with BR on Thursdays so this works out well for me.
Mortgage company are useless - before the repossession even started I offered them what I could afford each month but they said no then 6 months, later 5 days before I had to go to court, they called and said they would accept reduced payments. It was too late by then I had got further into debt trying to cover the mortgage and another general living expenses. Apart from that call they have only contacted me to get money from me.
I know its different for everyone but in the end I was glad to leave my little flat. Even though I loved it, it had cause so much heartache!!
Thank you all once again, advice is great (especially fatherly advice, Richard - luckily my parents are also really supportive and dont mind what I do as long as I am happy with the decisions I make)
I will sleep better tonight for all your great advice.
