Yes, if you give the power of attorney to someone in the UK and they would be able to represent you at court. You would need to have left the UK less than 3 yrs ago as well.

Paul Johns from Reviva (http://www.revivauk.com/) helps a lot of people who live abroad with declaring BR in the UK so it would probably be worth speaking with him regarding the time and costs of giving the power of attorney to someone.

Alternatively you could fly back to the UK and get everything done in one day at the High court in London.

Hi,

I live in Japan, and recently did the same thing around a year ago. (actually I was discharged a couple of weeks ago) I used http://www.bankruptcyadvisoryservice.co.uk/ and they were great, really helpful and reassuring and there were no problems.

There are some costs though, on top of the fee for the bankruptcy, you have to do the power of attorney, and here I needed a lawyer to do that. I don't know the situation in China.

I think the process is actually easier than if you are in the uk. You submit your documents (Or the person who is your power of attorney does) to the High Court in London.

Although in theory your bank account could be frozen, in practice, my bank account in japan was unaffected, so my daily life pretty much continued as normal.

It was definitely the right thing for me.

Good luck
Matt
