Hi. My wife will be going BR soon and she has a car in her name worth around £3500 but she needs it for work as she is a care assistant for her sister with MS.

1. If the OR takes the car how long after her interview will the OR take the car.

2. If the OR gives her £2000 for the purchase of a car how is this done will she get a cheque or cash or would the OR expect her to buy a car then give her the money when seeing the reciept.

3. As my wife needs a reliable car and the OR gives her £2000 would her mother be able to put £3000 into the purchase as a gift and get a car for £5000.

Many thanks for any help.

Dave.

1,
most likely straight away as he is liable for the car once she is BR
2
most likely the OR will pay the dealer directly where you are buying the new car from
3
if the gift of £3000 is likely it would potentially be better for her mother to buy the car with receipt in her name and allow her daughter to use it.

Thanks for all answers so far.

The gift of say £3000 from her mother plus the £2000 from OR would be so my wife could get a better and more reliable car worth around £5000.

Or

If her mother bought the car in her name would my wife still be able to claim £2000 towards the car from OR to put towards.

Thanks again..

i must admit i don't know if the OR would agree to the value being upped, he might do but he might not.
i don't think your wife would be able to "claim" the £2000 from the OR to put towards a more expensive car.
the other option would be for her mother to buy a £1500 share in the car she has now so your wife only has a £2000 share in it .after paying for the court fees give the balance of the money to the OR, they like that!!
if done correctly and presented to the OR correctly that may be accepted more easily.

I was thinking what you suggested about her mother paying for a claim towards the car she has now.
The only thing with this is that it needs a new part fitting costing about £500.
Would the OR deduct the cost of repair from the amount of equity in car.
So if her car is worth £3500 would her mother be able to offer £1000 on top of the £2000 allowed by OR minus the cost of repair.

Sorry for many question but dont know which way to go
Thanks again

if the car needs a part worth £500 it is not worth £3500......... its only worth £3000 so if your mother is going to pay for the part and give £1000 she has a £1500 share in the car
