I am currently getting an employers pension and Incapacity Benefit. If I get an IPA, how will the OR work out what I have to pay? will he take the benefit and my pension? or will it be based on my pension alone? Also my wifes income is totally from benefits, am I right in thinking that she will not get an IPA? Our OR interview is on Tuesday morning.

Hi Charlie,

First of all - will be thinking of you on Tuesday - I am sure it will be fine.

I receive 3 small pensions, ESA and CTB and a CTC for our youngest who still is in further education.

My wife who is not BR receives IS (not that her income is relevant to my BR).

I do not have an IPA - I am not sure if my situation is standard or whether different ORs make different decisions based upon nothing much - I am sure it is not a lottery - there must be a formula...

I would think that you will not get an IPA (no, not the beer!) Good luck, Richard

if income is based solely on benefits then no IPA will be sought
if income is based on benefits and another source then if there is disposable income over £99 then an IPA may be sought but the amount can not exceed the amount of non benefit inome

Chester ORs seem to be quite a good bunch but they are a little busy at the moment
you should have no problems with your interview
