Posted - 09 February 2010 : 06:41:33 I think you will find that it is not a credit check. It's just an identity check. As long as you are on the electoral register there is not normally a problem, otherwise you may have to provide further documentation that you are who you say you are.
Buckle your seat belt Dorothy, 'cos Kansas is going bye bye.

Posted - 08 February 2010 : 16:44:56 I walked into the Co-op bank about 20 minutes after being declared bankrupt. I told them outright, I'm bankrupt and they said 'no problem' we've set up accounts for people in the same situation loads of times. They did the application there and then - it even included some form of credit check - and it was all fine. I got my new account paperwork the same week.
I blogged about it here: http://averagejoegoesbankrupt.blogs.bankruptcyhelp.org.uk/2009/11/20/count-on-the-co-operative/

Posted - 07 February 2010 : 12:51:30 i was told over the phone that my account was approved. This was a couple of month before my BR but i did tell them the reason i was opening it was because i was going BR , they were fine with it. A couple of days later my account number etc came in the post .

Posted - 07 February 2010 : 08:58:49 The same happened with me. When I phoned to open an account they said the application was deferred or something similar. A few days later I received a letter from the Co-op asking for proof of identity. I popped into a local branch with my driving licence as proof of identity and a week or so later I received the account details.
You can also send in proof of identity if there isn't a local branch nearby.
They may not ask you for proof of identity but it can sometimes take a few days to open the account so nothing to worry about.
They should have given you a reference number so if you haven't heard anything by Friday give them a call to chase them up. With a lot of people declaring BR at the moment, and most opening a Cashminder account, they will be very busy so there may be a short delay in opening the account. |

Posted - 06 February 2010 : 22:34:15 Hi
It often takes a few days before they confirm that you can have an account.
I had to wait a couple of days, yet my wife was told over the phone.

Posted - 06 February 2010 : 22:25:55 Hi Welshaly I also have put the wheels in motion to open up a Cashminder account and they said that it had been referred but this was nothing unusual for someone about to go bankrupt and I should hear in a few days. So hopefully we'll both have some good news shortly.
