Posted - 02 March 2010 : 14:44:29 Hi, can someone round here please help me, after major heath issues both physical and mental I’m in a right pickle.
I owe about 25,000£ in total and growing everyday, I have managed for a while to pay some debts but now have about 4 default notices against me and three more on their way!!!
I have no assets apart from an old car, 1997 rover 400 worth a few hundred quid, a few personal belonging, most of the debt was on consumer goods which I foolishly gave away or sold for a little of their value :O( a small pension from about 18 years ago (value approx £8000) but no savings or investments, and about 30 quid to my name in cash. I’m up to date with most of my priority debt, maybe about three weeks behind in rent.
My only income is £105 per week incapacity benefit and I get housing and council tax benefit.
I now have an opportunity to move towns and start a new life with my partner, I don’t want to take the debt with me so have made up my mind to go bankrupt, I see no other way forwards and at my age the chance of ever getting a mortgage or even a job right now seems miles off.
I need to know where to be pointed, what to do, and how to do it. I have access to a limited amount of cash, but have been told there is help available to some people towards the court costs.
Help….. is what I need now, please can someone help me I’m desperate and need an answer to this and a way out, other than the rope and the loft trick :O(
Tia

Posted - 02 March 2010 : 15:30:54 You can find your local court at http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/HMCSCourtFinder. You will need to contact them to find out the procedure for declaring BR. Some courts allow you to tun up on the day, others operate an appointment system. You will need to complete forms 6.27 and 6.28 and they can be completed online at http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/doitonline/doitonlinemenu.htm
The BR fee is currently £510 however it is going up to £600 in April. If you are on benefits you can get a £150 rebate by completing the following form:
