Hi

I went BR on 27/10/09 and got ED on 26/05/10, before I went BR I banked with Nationwide but the OR never closed or froze the both accounts, Can I still use the savings account with Nationwide? would I need to explain to nationwide about my past?

Thanks

Dez

I would have been reluctant to use the account if they had been one of my creditors, but they weren't and I was assured it was ok to use a pre-BR account.

HI
I had the same problem with Nationwide, they took my flexaccount off the itnernet banking and sent a letter to confirm that the debt was settled due to the bankruptcy but the Credit Card and the Loan Account I had with them are still on the Internet banking and phone banking screens, they have assured me that they wont offset the debt and I have sent them a copy of the discharge letter but its still there so I dont really trust them they were my biggest creditor

Best of Luck

Stu

I too had a Nationwide FlexAccount - but as my mum was a Joint Account Holder they did not shut it down, however, i did include my Nationwide Credit Card in my Bankruptcy adn that was accepted and wiped, but it is still showing on my internet banking - should i just leave it or should i contact the credit company and ask them to take it off - i dont want to remind them of it - if i dont need to - but seeing it on there just reminds me of the bad times when i had credit cards!

Thanks for that Dez - I've never told them so it's quite reassuring to know that they don't have a problem!

I have to say that I didn't tell Nationwide. I didn't have a debit card any more, so I phoned up and asked for one and was pleasantly surprised when it was a full debit card! I then asked for a chequebook as well which was sent with no problems.

Thanks gettingoutofdebt and skippy13 for your help I do believe my accounts are still open as I can view them on line through there internet banking. Would I have to tell them that during my time of having a bank accounts with them that I have been BR, and if they find out after could they close my account and keep my money?

When I went BR Iowed Nationwide no money

thanks

Gettingoutofdebt is right, I had a full Flexaccount with Nationwide and I'm using that as my main account now. I've also been able to open savings accounts with them without any problems.

Give them a call and ask them whether the account is still active. Just say that you completely forgot about the account but want to start using it again. I think Skippy also had a bank account with Nationwide that wasn't frozen/closed when she went BR and she started using it again once she was discharged.
