In response to my question to my HR department, I have just received this reply

"As long as it did not effect or have implications for their role at work at all then, it would not have an effect on continued employment"

This hasn't really clarified things, as I do deal with purchasing and invoicing (although not with cash) and I do have a credit card issued by my employers. As far as I am aware my employers are the account holders and are liable for payment and I am just the card holder (my name is on the card). Whether this constitutes 'an effect or implications' I am not sure. I am also approaching my union representative, so hopefully they might be able to find out on my behalf.

Hi all,

I am also scared that if I declare myself bankrupt, I will get the sack from my employer (I work in a government department in a museum).

I did send HR an email, but it wasn't exactly anonymous, unfortunately and now I am petrified it will go all downhill from here and I fear the worst.

Hi Andrew,

I find it highly unlikely that BR will effect your job. That anonymous phone call to HR is probably a good idea, just for piece of mind if nothing else.

Hi Andrew,
I know what your going through, i took pills back in May and it was on my mums wedding anniversary of all days as i just had enough. When i finally explained to my parents what mess we were in things started to get a bit better, they did not want us to go BR but understood and have also been my rock through all of this.
I know now that life is way too short and im glad i did not suceed as i love my OH and my kids sooooooooo very much and now im glad we went BR.
It will be a great release for you and while it takes a while to sink in and the leading up to it is also stressfull you will look back and say that it was the best thing you could have done.
Good luck
JO

Hi my OH's employer were not interested at all, infact they were quite supportive, he did not have to tell them but wanted to pave the way as it would be a matter of time before they heard.
If my OH had still been in the Armed Forces then i think that for him it could have caused serious reprocussions but luckily for us he has been out 10 years or more.

Hi

good idea CG.

You would usually expect an NT (no tax) tax code in bankruptcy and the inland revenue will have to notify your employer of this.

Whilst an NT tax code may not automatically tell your employer you have been declared bankrupt they would certainly suspect.

I would find out if your job is safe, if it is then keep your employer informed.

Hello stranger!

Ican't help you with that one I'm afraid, but when we initially thought about going BR I was worried how it would affect my job too, so I got my hubby to phone HR for me, anonymously obviously, and ask if BR would affect my job. Luckily they said no!

Maybe you could do the same?
