Hello Everyone, I was discharged from my bankruptcy back in February and thanks to this forum and Paul from Reviva, the whole process really was a positive one and I feel extremely fortunate. :o)

I just have 2 questions I would really appreciate some help with please.

Firstly, now I am post bankruptcy (although I never wish to be in a loans and credit cards position again) how will I begin to repair my credit rating? I am in a position to save money now, my wages have increased and my outgoings are extremly low. This is new teratory for me but should I be taking steps to repair my credit.... pre paid credit card, savings account, small loan? I wouldn't know where to start as I am still unable to get a regular 'non Visa Electron' bank account.

Secondly, even though I vacated my property and handed the keys back before going bankrupt, my electric company EON have forward dated charges of £560 to after my discharge and are constantly threatening. I only owed them £45 when going bankrupt and this was written off. Unfortunately my OR was obligated to give them my forwarding address and I am not sure where I stand..

Hi Robin

Give paul a text in the morning, he should be able to help.

Skippy's blog is highly recomended, as it shows some of the problems and actions taken by skippy.

Not to upset you E-on are ****s they will try it on and then, accidently not recall what they have told you or the OR, (keep records when you speak to them)

before you disappear from the insolvency web site have you printed off, your entry showing discharged from bankruptcy.

good luck regards Richard

Hello,
I too am trying to repair my credit rating - i have been discharged for 2 years now. I have got a pre-paid credit card from CashPlus - where they kind of lend you £60 over the year and you pay back £4.95 a month and after three months of doing this they write to Experian and tell them that you are keeping up with the payments. Basically you pay out £60 over the year, just for the priveldge of having the card and showing that you can make monthly payments on time.
Also, if you signon to the Electrol Role - that helps. Even paying your household bills and telephone bill on time helps. Also, print off your discharge date from the regsiter and send this to Experian and they will update your credit report.

Hope this helps

Banks also report to the credit agencies, so having a bank account will help.

I've got a bank account, mobile phone contract and Vanquis credit card (low credit limit and used for petrol only) and they will all report to the credit agencies. I keep meaning to apply for a catalogue but haven't got around to it yet!

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

34 IPA payments made, 2 to go - not long to go now!

Thank you,

Thats really positive! I didn't realise I could send my discharge notice to Experian, I shall do that today.

I am still concerned about EON as where I should be beginning a clean start, I am worried that they are legally allowed to have put my old debts on hold during my bankruptcy to enable them to threaten me now. It just doesn't make sense to me..... it also means I have no hope of repairing my credit history :o(

Hi Robin

As far as EON are concerned, my understanding is that you vacated the property and handed the keys to the mortgage company prior to going bankrupt.

As a consequence, apart from the fact that there shouldn't be any electricity being used by an empty property, the "occupier" is the mortgage company who is liable for the bills.

Did you take a meter reading when you vacated, and did you get a receipt when you handed the keys back?

Assuming you did, I would suggest you write to EON with copies, tell them you have no liability for any period after you handed the keys back, and give them the contact details of the mortgage company - I would also send a copy of that letter to the mortgage company.

Thank you Bridgewood,

Unfortunately I didn't get a receipt for my keys (which were sent recorded delivery) and Halifax really dragged their heels taking the flat back. I went BR in February 09 and they 'officially' took posession in December.. The flat was completely empty though, tank drained, electric off. I only owed them 1 months bill when going BR to! Unbelievable how sneaky they are. I received a bailiffs notice from them, at my new address 2 days after being discharged from BR, its fairly clear they diarise these things, but my OR gave them my forwarding details and has written saying she's sorry but its dated post BR so she cannot help...

Skippy, thank you I love the Vanquis card idea and I am online now changing the utility bills into my name :o)

Having the Vanquis card scared me at first, but they only gave me £250 credit to start with. It's now been put up to £500 which is about right for me, and I don't want it to go any higher - if they do I'll probably ask them to reduce it again!

Which Catalogues are people applying for? Ones like Littlewoods etc?
Will you always get accepted for these, or will you be turned down. I have been discharged for 2 and a half years now. I don't want to apply and then get turned down. Also, will Vanquis always accept you?

Skippy have your payments finished yet then?! I remember being on here when you started them!

thanks

Can anybody help please? I have just tried to open a savings account online with Co-op and have been declined :o( I have a Cashminder and really don't understand why a savings would be a problem...??

Does anybody else have savings accounts? I was discharged in Feb and really desperate to start managing my money as best I can.

Robin,

The Co-op is a great bank for BRs. However, they will not give anything over the Cashminder account to discharged BRs - that is until the 6 years has elepsed.

I asked them the same question recently.

I am not sure if there is another bank that will assist - I am sure someone wil post with advice, Richard
