I have no income at all, my wife works and she has to have her car (District Nurse) which is worth £7,000 most of the debts are in my name. Will her car be affected if I go bankrupt

Hi John

if you go bankrupt your wifes car will not be affected.

however if any of the debts are joint then they will pass to her so it may lead to her having to declare bankrupt in which case yes the car would be affected.

John welcome to the forum at this early stage speak to one of the experts (list to the left) and establish a plan of action, email them with a full break down and see what solutions they have to offer.

I used paul and his team at reviva and would strongly recomend them

regards Richard

Thanks richard, We have a joint bank account so should she get one on her own? Also when I aplied for a credit card I was asked if I'd like my wife as a second card holder although she never used her card would she still be liable for 50%? Thanks.

Hi Parklane

It wouldn't be a bad idea for your wife to open an account in her own name

As a second card holder she wouldn't usually have any liability on your credit card account

if only one of you is likely to go BR, it would make sense to have totally seperate accounts and finances.

perhaps with one joint account as the household bills account, if you open an account speak to the bank and make certain that they are Br friendly, you do not want the account shut down just as you are trying to sort yourself out !... COOP cash minder is normally very good .

good luck regards Richard
