Hi, I an thinking about declaring myself bankrupt but need to know if its the right thing to do. I want my credit repaired in the quickest way possible. I am unsure if going bankrupt will close my bank account down and if it would effect my joint house hold account that I share with my partner! I owe around 15 thousand and have very little means of repayment. My main concern is to fix my credit, even if i have to wait 6 years!

Hello jenna

Welcome to the forum.

The first thing is to establish whether you have sought any advice regarding your debts as yet?

You mention £15K - that is not an enormous debt in the overall scheme of things. You may try the local CAB or someone like CCCS first. They will look at your income and expenditure.

If your debts are in your sole name, then your partner willnot need to be involved - it is if you have joint unsecured debts that there is a joint and several liability.

Do you have any assets - house, car, or a Picasso??

You can, of course, speak to one of the insolvency experts on the forum - see the left hand side of the page.

I hope this starts to guide you - do not despair - there is always a solution, Richard
