Hi I have a question about housing benefit and my voluntarily repossessed house.
I sent the keys back to my MP yesterday and am now looking for rented accommodation with my partner. As I am unemployed and my partner is a very low earner, we will be applying for housing benefit, my query is when the housing benefit people ask if I have a property, do I say yes or no.....as if I say yes, they will want proof from C & G that I have voluntarily surrendered the property, and as I have no intention of signing anything they may send, they probably wont send this proof. So two questions really:
1) is the fact that I have a copy of my letter to C & G plus the proof of posting and receipt enough proof for the housing benefit people.
2)As I do not have access to my property and have surrendered it can I just say that I dont have any property.

Hope this makes sense and any help will be much appreciated.

Hi David

If it was me I would give the housing benefit people the full story and let them decide.

I think the copy letter and proof of posting should be enough for them to see the true position

If you don't have anything from C & G just tell the housing benefit office that.

Good luck

I would definitely tell the whole story to the Housing Benefit people or you could end up owing money if you get something you technically weren't entitled to & all the stress that entails.
