Hello All, I was declared bankrupt in Nov 2007, and Discharged in September 2008. I am in the process of trying to improve my credit report, I have updated everything on my credit file, I have done the Cashplus Card, and enrolled on the Electoral Roll - firstly is there anything else I can do, and secondly, I have been living with my partner now for 6 months, he has a mortgage, and wants to know if I can go on it, he is with Halifax - my question is are they likely to let me on it, with they give us a new rate because I have been bankrupt before, or will they just turn us down straight away? Forum Experts please can you offer me some advice - or do I just haev to wait until it drops off my credit report in a few years?!
Thank you

If you have updated your credit file and have a credit card then there is not much more you can do to improve your credit rating.

As regards the mortgage the only way to find out is to apply to go on the mortgage. You can check your credit score from your file to see what sort of level it is currently at but even if it is fairly good the Halifax may still refuse to allow you on the mortgage or put the rate up.

Your BR debts won't fall off your credit file until 6 yrs after you declared BR but all mortgage providers normally specifically ask if you were ever BR and you will be obliged to say yes.

Does your partner know you were BR? If so, you can just apply to go on the mortgage and see what the Halifax say. If not then it may be wise to either tell your partner or try and stall until your BR debts fall off your credit rating but even then you will need to tell the Halifax that you were BR if they ask you.
