Hi, looking for a little help. Is my computer as asset? It is shared with my children when they visit. I am also finding it useful as a tool to find work, although no luck yet.
Also, I bought my kids a 2nd hand Nintendo Wii, which they often play with during visits. It is theirs IMHO. Will they be able to keep this. Only time I use it is when playing with the children. What other stuff must be declared as assets? CD's/DVD's etc? Thanks in advance. |

Hi there - these days a computer is seen as pretty much an essential household item, particularly if there are children in the household, therefore the OR will not be concerned with it - the only thing the OR will question is a large internet cost - try to look at one of the packages currently available for phone/internet/TV etc this will bring all your outgoings for such items down and you will have no worries Hope this helps

i always say, if in doubt put it down on the forms, but anything that the OR deems to be for reasonable domestic use wont be taken,
So as an example, computor that you use at home with the kids, not an asset, (reasonable and domestic)
Computer used at your business premises could be an asset (reasonable value but not domestic)
Couch at home, not an asset (reasobale and domestic)
Couch in the house you rent out, could be an asset, (may be reasonable but not domestic to you)
Print from IKEA hanging on the wall not an asset (reasonable and domestic)
Original picasso would be an asset (domestic but not reasonable)
hope that helps |
