I took bankrupsy in Oct last year, I went to open a bankacount last week and was told I cant open a regular bankacount for 6 years and I would have bad credit history for 10years. Where can I open a regular bankacount.
Just an aside but the bankruptcy entry will be erased from your credit file six years after your discharge from bankruptcy. All your debts which were included in the bankruptcy should also be erased so I am at a loss to know where the figure of 10 years for you having a bad credit history was found. Six years and that is that.
All the best

The record of bankruptcy will stay on file for 6 years and then you will have a squeaky clean credit file. Saying that your credit rating will probably still not be that great until you start building up your credit file by having some kind of credit and paying it off regularly. I have another 4 years to go :(
I can personaly vouch for the co-op cashminder acc as we opened one each for BR purposes. No problems at all opening the acc & didn't even need to provide ID on the day. I have heard of other banks that are also BR friendly so it may be worthwhile investigating tose too. Good Luck.
