I will be going bankrupt soon and have a car worth approx £4300. Will I have to sell this and how much would they allow me to get another cheaper one as I realy need one to travel to work as I work continental shifts.

Hi andy
The OR will usually allow a vehicle worth up to £2500-£3000 as exempt. The valuation will be done on a Parker type scale, so have a look and see if it may be worth less than that.
If not do you have anyone who could pay the difference?

Hi Suzanne,
Thanks for that info, what is a Parker type scale though? My car is worth between £2400 and £2800.

Parkers are a firm of valuers used extensively by the OR. You could also use Glass's Guide.

For an informal chat about any financial difficulties, or advice as to the options available, I can be contacted via my website - www.melaniegiles.com
