..and simply let your debts get bigger and bigger... whats the worst? bailiffs, CCJ?

someone I know just moved away,,, what happens then if they can't find you?

Is Bankruptcy or IVA's for piece of mind so you done get all the bailiff stuff and dont want to move away?

Mancunian,

That really is for your conscience to decide. If you moved abroad then the likelihood is you would never hear from your debts again. If you moved away in this country then you will be found, it may take a while but you will be found. Until you are found you will be waiting to be found, when the phone rings you will wonder if you have been found, when the post arrives you will wonder if you have been found. Most companies employ tracers and with the information that is freely available to everybody these days, they do trace you.

It might seem a good idea now but you will never be free from your debt. Your best option, in my opinion, is to face up to your problems and deal with them head on. That way you can sleep knowing you have done the right thing and you will be able to see some light at the end of it.... not just a never ending dark tunnel.

Sorry if this sounds like a lecture / sermon but i have had the same thought as you and i am so glad somebody talked me out of running away.

Hi mancunian, I agree with hammy0107 that you can't hide forever and the stress (I can only speak for myself) is not worth it. I have moved about a lot in the past 2-3 years (not just to avoid debt) and have been traced by debt collectors etc. They get you if you have a bank account, phone account etc. it takes time but they do find you. I am going BR as soon as i have the fees as I want to be able to sleep at night, get rid of the past and move on with my life. Most of my debt (past expenditure) was incurred as a result of a divorce and was joint with my now ex- who is nowhere to be seen. A lot to carry around and try to live with. There's my sermon over too.

Good luck whatever you decide to do

Manc,
unless they can live a life without a bank account, a driving licence a passport , a house ,and an income they will find them.the minute they need or use any of the above it is logged and the details retained, and it will be available for people to see so yes they will find them. And as hammy says quite rightly says would you like to live your life looking over your shoulder?
and if the police get involved it wont take long .............

what a great board this is!

you are all very friendly and helpful and dont judge people.

what would warrant the police to be called in... fraud? as debt is a civil matter isnt it?

thanks again

i believe so,they would only need reasonable grounds to issue a warrant.so if you borrowed a lot and then did one, that 'could' be construed as fraud ,i think.
also ,they have a car? how would they tax ,mot and insure it? those are all listed on national databases, what with that and all these ANPR and speed cameras they could soon find them or their aprroximate whereabouts and a big of digging would probably find them.and if they didnt the rozzers would soon stop them.
its difficult for sure but it could be done, live in a cave, eat berries and ride a bike ,pretend your foreign and only do cash in hand work you might just get away with it.
Sod that for a game of soldiers,i need my creature comforts.i'd own up and and be damned or you could not own up and still be damned and have a big spiky book thrown at you as well for good measure.
i know what id rather choose
