I am currently BR due to be discharged in June. I have been on Br tax code but unemployed since I went BR. I got a letter today saying that effective today should I sign off and get a job or should 5th April come around first I am to give them a 934L tax code - so this is not BR. does this mean I have been or will be discharged early? Mine was a simple affair, only 2-3 creditors and no assets/income

Thanks

James

Hi and welcome.

I've no idea on this one - hopefully Viki will be along later to advise.

Hi James,

Check the insolvency register. If you click on your name, you can then check if it says discharged.

What I would suggest as well is that once it shows you as discharged, you print that page off in case you need it in future.

If you don't and you need to get one then it will cost you about £70 from the court.

The NT tax code only lasts for the tax year in which you are made BR and reverts to a 'normal' code in the next tax year regardless of if you are discharged or not.

It will also revert to a 'normal' tax code if you change employment during the tax year that you are made BR.

The more I have to do with humans the more I think that the world would be a better place if it was run by animals.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side.
