I went BR in June last year and I have just had a letter relating to unpaid council tax which was dated april 2012. it's not in my peition because I had forgotten about it. They are saying I have to go to court and can possibly go to prision for upto 90 days. Baliffs have also been to my old address last september. How can this all be ordered when I am BR? does this mean this is not in the BR at all and I will have to pay? I am on JSA and have been since before I went BR which is why I went BR as I was made redundant on health grounds..

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

When is the unpaid bill from?

Sounds as though it should have been included but do speak to the council and let them know you are bankrupt and also mention it to the OR,

Hi Simon,

Which year was the council tax for? Was it for your home you were living in at the time?

As Niobe has said, speak to the OR and the council straight away to see if you are liable for this debt.
