Hello,my ex wife (we have been seperated for 18 months and divorce proceedings not started) is declaring herself bankcrupt, we have already sold the matrimonial home. However apart from our individual debts we also have an outstanding joint debt with the halifax bank (overdraft of over £1, 200) and a £24,000 debt which was originally secured on our property.

How will her bankruptcy affect these joint debts please, I have been trying to find any advice regarding this to no avail. I would be extremely grateful if your could clarify where I stand, many thanks, Paul.

Hi paul

I'm not clear on how you come to have a previously secured debt which is no longer secured.
Maybe your property was repossessed.

That aside, if the £1200 and the £24000 are in joint names and your ex wife declares bankruptcy then the full £25200 becomes your sole liability.
