i have just got a valuation on line for my car at about £4500.do i put this value on the soa (value average condition) will the or use such a valuation or an auction valuation ( i have no idea what it would go for at auction) i have rhuematoid arthritis (receive lower rate dla)and really need a car to get to work, to help with shopping, hospital appts and day to day living etc as sometime dependant on my condition it causes me pain on walking but not enough due to the distance i can walk to claim the higher rate dla because i can walk more than 150 yards. would a letter to the or from my gp help?

i am really worried now that the car will be taken. if so would it be likely that i would be allowed something back from the sale of the vehicle to purchase a cheaper car.

also

on the i&E do i work out my monthly costs on running a vehicle, ie fuel, parking, mot, repairs, tax etc or do i work them out as if i done have a vehicle ie bus fares to work.

any advice would be as always appreciated

thanks

I hope I can help with this one but Im not entirely sure, if you have a vehicle now I would put down all the costs associated with that, car tax, car insurance, maintenance, servicing, mot, petrol etc. because that is what you are currently paying.

If your car is taken then the OR has to give you back £2,000 to buy another one.

Hi soscared,

Firstly, I would suggest putting the vehicle down at it's true value. The OR will check, so it's best to be on the level.

Secondly, your DLA is paying (certainly in part) for the vehicle. I would suggest a letter from your GP outlining your need for it will help with the OR.

Is the vehicle on finance? If not, the worst case scenario is that the OR will take it but will give you money to buy another car with. If it is on finance, that will be deemed as secured lending which is expemt from BR (unless there is equity in the vehicle).

I don't believe you have anything to worry about here.

the car is paid for in full, i'm not bothered about it going just as long as would be able to replace it with something.

Hi i put the car details down and what we spent per month on it, my OR thought to start with that we may not be able to keep it but after she did her valuation she said we could and now i have an exemption cert from them stating this.
I would write it down as per what you have valued it at and on your I&E how much you spend out per month and mention to the OR about how much you need it etc.
Good luck.

Hi soscared
sorry it's taken so long to get back to you on the valuation.

My research tells me that the valuation of £4500 is spot on for your car. This means the OR may well claim the vehicle but if he does you will get £2000 or so to replace it.
