Under what circumstances could the OR give a BRO/BRU - i have heard so much about them but dont know why people get them

The weights are coming off my shoulders very slowly, but making such a big diference !!

Hi , im no expert but from what i gather a BRO/BRU is given in cases of gambling , perceived recklesness , taking credit with no reasonable expectation of paying it back .
There are prob others as well but they are the ones i know about .
I will def be getting a BRO/BRU as my main cause of BR has been compulsive gambling .

Hi Digman is totally right. And yes it is up to the OR to whether they will want to put you on one.
I think they can apply up to the discharge date and if they have not got it in time they can apply to hold off on your discharge until they have it in place.

Hi ' moneyworries' , yeah our date is next friday 3 october . i only rung up last week to get date so doesnt look like they are over busy ' up north ' .
Good luck with yours , i think i am going to need more than luck to get thru mine !! LOL . There are a couple of things which could be veiwed in a different context to the way they happened , but all i can do is explain and hope the OR accepts what i have said .

Hi Moneyworries,

I agree with Digman in respect of the usual circumstances that a BRO/BRU is given. Do you think you may have done something to get one?

Julian

From what has been previously mentioned that i will not be happy if i do. I didnt actually realise i had no alternative to go BR until maximum of 2 weeks ago.....and its been months since i used or opened any new cards etc......then again i could be wrong, what do you think - im questioning myself now

Hi Moneyworries,

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Your situation certainly wasn't planned and I'm sure the OR will see it that way. You have done nothing the OR hasn't seen many times before ... in fact, most people will exhaust all lines of available credit before going BR. Don't worry!

Digman

Im sure it will go fine - from what is said here the court is the easiest part - im terrified of the OR, but like you say, we can only say what happened when and why they happened and leave it up to the OR.

Wish my date was closer - keep thinking should i phone a different court.

Have you let our creditors know your going BR or will you let the OR do the explaining?

Hi 'moneyworries'
yeah i am terrified of OR as well , think partly down to fear of the unknown as the control of the situation will be out of my hands .

as for telling creditors i am not going out of my way to let them know but when they ring up now i tell them am going BR on Fri 3rd . All they say is ok , please let us know when you have done it . Have told Goldfish , Co-op credit card , Capital one , Lloyds credit card and one of the payday advance companies so far . Not had any abuse or stuff like that , which i thought i would get .

Will post on Fri saying how it went

Hi Digman,

I never told anyone until the day we did it, im one of these that thought if i told them then it would all go wrong and it wa smy last resort.
It was the best feeling ever coming out of the court, the phone call from the OR was nothing to worry about, infact after i had my initial call from them i felt at ease, as will you.
They are not Judges, just human beings doing a job, i did not like the thought of not being in control, but now i have no real worries and its great.
Honestly it will all go smoothly and you will soon be posting about how it was not as bad as you thought. :-)

Take care

Hey you know i love to help as the saying goes been there done that, well i am 8 weeks in now.
It will all come good in the end, the feelings are great, yeah we have worries still the house, where will we go but hey thats in the future, the house caused most of our debts anyhow so that is not really an issue.
We want to be happy and not be scared of the phone or the post and by going BR we have not chosen an easy route but its been the best thing we have done, and we have learnt a very valuble lesson indeed.
NO MORE CREDIT CARDS or LOANS.
Oh well maybe a car one in the future but thats it, if i need a CC it will be prepaid.
LOL
