Hi All

Hope someone will be able to help me - again

Basically hubby is self employed and has got no work from friday, been to local jobcentre plus and been told he will be able to claim income based jobseekers allowance - but he only knows how to do one thing - plumbing (he has done this since he left school and is now 33). Apparently they cant help with mortgage payments until after 33 weeks of no work !!! aaarrrggghhh.....wha do we do??? Hopefully we can claim council tax benefit, but not had anything confirmed yet as we cant make claim until he is actually no work left.

Anyway with this payment (thats if we get the highest amount, as it says up to), child benefit an childrens tax credits there still is not enough to cover just the mortgage.

Does anyone know of any other benefits we may be entitled to as a family etc...Things just seem to be coming smacking us in the face at the moment and we dont know what to do??

Also, sorry for another one, but can we write to his creditors who are unsecured and ask for payment breaks, will they even consider this? he has always paid on time etc...but now we are living off overdraft and credit cards and they are sure to reach their limit soon

Onwards and Upwards is the way im going :-0)

xx

If he could just manage 16 hrs a week he could claim working tax credit which would bump income up a bit. Or could you get a job for 16 hours?

Yes, that is what working tax credits are designed for, to keep people in work or help them back into it. One of you only needs to work 16 hours I think, in order for it to be topped up.

Hi MW

I know that when my OH left me i had to do a minimum of 16 hours and i would have got pretty much the maximum for TC & WTC so its def worth looking into.

I do hope that things start to look up for you.

Just remember what Jayne said, think of our OR's on the toilet, hee hee ;-)
