Hi everyone!

I am a bit confused with how you go about setting up a bank account once you are declared bankrupt. I know there are certain banks like the co-op which allow you to open an account once bankrupt, however I am not sure what type of bank card you are given. Would it just be a basic cash card you can use at an ATM or would it be some kind of debit card, you can use in shops so long as you have the funds in your account. If they don't provide you with any cards, how do you get hold of the cash in your account?

Confused and dazed!!!

hi there xmas baby

i opened a coop cashminder account after bankruptcy it works just like a switch/maestro card, using in link cash machines, can withdraw and deposit money in post office also, and have been able to use it in most shops the only problem i had was the pay at petrol pumps at asda who dont accept the card but the cashiers/petrol kiosks do????
it took a week for them to accept the application but i have online access to my account can pay bills and set up standing orders and direct debits online or over the phone - its great

hope this helps

Hey xmas baby

I too opened the coop cashminder, but i opened mine prior to going br....I did not use it until after i went br, but it was never frozen and they are very br friendly.

I have never been refused my electron debit card anywhere - yet ! As previously stated i can do all my banking online and even better can use the local post office for all my banking needs.

Good luck

Jenny

Hi Keith

I too have a Coop cashminder account which i opened after BR and its been a brilliant little account.

It has an electron card and also allows for DD's and SO's also as mentioned online access.

I would def go for this if you can as so far its been a big thumbs up for the Coop and is so BR friendly.

Take care

Jo

I've also got the Co-op Cashminder and to be honest I don't miss having a 'proper' bank account as it does everything I want.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.
