hi there,
I had my initial phonecall from the bristol OR office where a nice young lady told me they had no problem with my Natwest Step account as I need a basic account for my wages to go in etc as long as the Natwest were happy, well I didn't think this would be a problem because when I opened it in November I did indicate that there was a possibility I would be bankrupt in the new year.
anyhoo, I go in to see them today as a courtesy to be told that the account will be closed soon and is only for discharged BR's, I honestly could have cried right there.
I asked for the phone number of a higher authority and was told that if I could produce a letter from the OR then they will keep the account open.
I shall speak to them on Monday morning and hope they will do this for me, do you think they will? Has anyone else been in the same or similiar situation and the OR has produced a letter?
As a back up, who else can you suggest? forget Co-op or Barclays I'm afraid. Also someone that can open an account rather quickly.
Thanks, Andy

Hi
If Coop and Barclays are out, I would recommend a managed account, these are accounts designed for poor financial circumstances, insolvency and bankruptcy, the all charges fees, but have varrying features they all can apply online annd have automatic acceptance:
Thinkbanking - www.thinkbanking.co.uk Charge £25 to open the account with £12.50 account management a month, they allow Direct Debits and Standing orders and provide a maestro card they have internet banking but its an "eyes only" service i.e you cant change anything, the funds are held with RBS but doesnt matter if they have debts with them.
OneBanking http://www.onebanking.co.uk £30 setup fee and £12.50 a month fee, no other fees, they dont allow Direct Debits but standing orders, full online facilities and account management, run by Natwest again doesnt matter if you have debts with them, they give you a prepaid mastercard to use
ExtraDirect http://www.extradirect.com £45 account setup fee and £15 a month fees, no direct debits, full online facilites again run by Natwest but doesnt matter if you have debts with them they give you a prepaid mastercard to use
ClearCash http://www.clearcash.co.uk, currently free account opening, doesnt allow direct debits but does allow Standing orders £9.99 a month fee no sort code and account number, account run by Alliance and Lecester doesnt matter if you have debts with them. They provide a visa debit card to use
All the above dont charge any fees if you have a bounceed transaction.
Official Recievers like managed accounts as you dont get any fees, and also it shows you are being proactive.

Hi
as the account has not been used I see no reason why the OR would not contact the bank on your behalf.

WHo were you dealing with in Bristol?
I have found Bristol OR's team to be very helpful, fair and professional. I suspect that if they know the new account was opened for this process they may well write the letter for you.

I am dealing with a lady called Mary, she seems very nice.
As the bank asked for the letter to be addressed to me I think I'd better follow those intructions, at least I'll know the letter will get to them that way.
I just hope she won't mind doing it. Would it be part of her remit?
Thanks, Andy |

Thats her, very nice.
I'm just paranoid that if the letter goes direct to the Natwest instead of through me then it would go to a different department to the one I spoke to and the account will end up closed.
Just the way my mind works
