I have a step account with Nstwest which my salary is paid into. If I declare myself bankrupt is it possible I would be allowed to keep this account.

Hi Shirley & welcome

That would be down to the Bank as to whether they allow you to keep it.

It may be worth applying for the Coop Cashminder account just after bankruptcy then you can have your wages paid in there, its allows dd's. so's and you also get online access and an electron card.
