I have been told that my wife can buy the BI in my home. I have been asked to send a cheque for £500 plus £1 (sole ownership). I am now told that as it is solely owned i must get my own solicitor in addition to the OR's solicitors which i am already paying for. Apparently there is more to do when transferring BI in a solely owned property. Anybody know if this is correct and if so how much this is likely to cost? Just when i think i am getting somewhere i need to find more money..

Hi hammy,

yes this is correct as your wife has to be put on the land registry documents as she is not on them already. £500 does seem a little high, they usually quote in the region of £250. You could give a conveyance solicitor a call for a quote so you know where you stand in terms of costs.

Just as a matter of interest some OR's are now offering the BI back to the petitioner ( provided they know where the funds come from to pay for this).

I assume that if you are already on land registry then the costs would be reduced to the £211 + BI
