I'm in my second year of IVA for personal dect and finding it difficult to find the money to pay the IVA. I'm a self employed bookkeeper, could I still trader as a bookkeeper if I declared bankruptcy? Also would my car be sold to pay for the bankruptcy? it's only worth £1,000 and I need it for home and work (I live in the middle of nowhere!). Also is their a bank account for people who are bankrupt with DD facilities. Thanks
Yes you can trade as a book keeper following bankruptcy. As your car is worth less than £2500-3000 you would be able to claim it as exempt because it is needed for work.
In terms of bankaccounts, I don't really have that information but perhaps someone else will come along that has already been through that. I have heard that the co-op are quite sympathetic in bankruptcy
With regards a bank account once bankrupt, I arranged for a co-op cashminder account to be set up a month before I petitioned for BK and I have had no problems whatsoever. All my direct debits come out of this account and I even spoke to the bank manager a few days before my bankruptcy hearing and asked him to ensure the account wasn't 'frozen' and he said there would be no problem with that for this type of account. Obviously there are no credit facilities with this account, but you do get an electron debit card which can be used in ATM's and for purchases in shops, etc.
