I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the following is ok for me to put on my bankruptcy form for "the cause of bankruptcy section"

I started accumulating my debt in 2005 when I decided to return to university to complete my MA, during this time I also left my parents house due to family conflict. I began using my credit cards to pay for all furniture that was necessary to live e.g. oven, fridge/freezer, washing machine, sofas, bed etc… I also used my credit cards to pay for food. My partner supported the both of us the majority of the time, however, he was in and out of work throughout the years. I took out a consolidation loan and paid off my credit cards, however, this did not improve the situation and I had to start using the credit cards again for living. About a year ago it became necessary to start taking cash out from my credit cards to pay for the rent. My partner lost his job in January 2009 due to the chauffeur driving business losing work due to the Recession and larger companies cutting back on the journeys they make. He was unable to look for work as he then had an operation and was unable to work for a minimum of 6 weeks. During this time I had to take over paying for all of the household bills and was unable to make my credit bills. It has now been 3 months and my partner is still out of work and my credit bills have not been paid for this length of time. My partner is not entitled to any benefits due to my earnings. It has come to a point where things have got out of control and I cannot see any other way out. I have spoken with Citizens Advice Bureau and they were unable to offer any other advice as my debt is so high.

the explanation is fine and the examiner will ask any further questions he/she may have.

I am in a similar position. My debts began many years ago ,consolidated loans, more credit, increased mortgaged and I always thought that the house would pay off the debts etc Then the bubble burst and I cannot sell the house and am likely to be in neg equity. I have already been made BR in March and am having my OR interview tomorrow. I'll tell you how it goes. Like most people on here I am dreading it --- explaining how irresponsible, I have been I suppose . Any way the only reason that I am sleeping and coping is with pills but I hope this is not giving me a false sense of security. Hopefully I shall know more by tomorrow. I dont suppose the Or can say 'you are not going to be allowed to be bankrupt ( a judge has made the order) and you must pay all the money back !!

Hi jelojo and Ripski!!
Good luck with the call tomorrow Ripski. I am sure it wont be bad and you may feel so much better after and hopefully will get a naturally induced sleep for you afterwards.

To both of you just be honest. Your situations will certainly not be unique. Most of us on this site have ended up living beyond our means etc. I forgot loads of where my money had gone but he seemed ok with that. Havent had anything back yet though so will keep you posted!! Good luck both of you.

Hi Jelojo. I went bankrupt a month ago and having read your reasons for bankruptcy I really think you need not worry. When you go to the court the court staff and also the judge in my experience are so unjudgemental. They see all sorts and your situation is not caused out of you doing anything henious or criminal. I really felt my situation would have them telling me I'd been irresponsible and thought I'd get hawled over the coals. They really couldnt have been fairer. The staff were possitively kind and the judge was too the point but brief and fairly pleasant. To Ripski, I too lost alot of sleep and it was unbearable waking to the sick feeling in my stomach every morning. I can't begin to tell you how I wish I'd known how the OR was going to be before hand though. It honestly was not horrible at all. As you will have seen in many posts the OR also has to be to the point and professional but the interview is structured in such a way so that the conversation is not making personal judgement against you. We went through my history since my financial problems started and though I made him aware that I was not proud of some of my actions that put me in this mess he simply wanted to know the facts and didnt make me feel bad at all. Believe me I had been in a right pickle before hand as my debts were high.
Jelojo, as far as going to court is concerned you need to phone your local county court and just ask whether you need to make an appointment. My one was just turn up and wait but I think most need you to book.
Good luck, but you will be fine!!!
