Hello,
I declared BR on 6th March this year and I am expecting a BRU, but haven't heard anything either so far. I'm sure they haven't forgotten about it, just busy... worse luck.

Don't base the fact that you will be getting a BRU on the OR's interview. They have to submit their findings and recommendations to their Supervisor who is the one who decides on the final I&E, BRU, etc. This is why some people agree to one I&E during the interview and then afterwards they receive a letter showing a different amount of disposable income.
As with the I&E you can also dispute the BRU so you should query the reasons for the BRU and if you don't think the reasons are valid then you should dispute the decision.
The OR only has until you are discharged (early or automatic) to implement a BRU/IPA so the longer you go without hearing something the better.
Someone else on this board mentioned that they were told they would be getting a BRU because they used credit to buy winter clothes for their baby as well as other necessary items. I don't think they disputed it but it wasn't implemented and they ended up with an early discharge. |

Hi Getting out of debt,
Thanks for the posting. The only reason why I am sure I will get a BRU is because most of my debt was through gambling using credit cards. I may be lucky and not get one, but I would be very surprised.

yeah, gambling is one of the reasons that you can get a BRU and they do specifically ask on the SOA about gambling. Having said that it's been almost 3 months since you were declared BR so you never know.....
I don't know if there are specific guidelines regarding gambling and a BRU i.e. you need to have taken new credit purely to gamble but either way you are still better off with a BRU than being chased by creditors. |
