I had early discharge in March, I didn't have to fill out a new I&E form, I just had a letter from my OR to say I had early discharge. I have just received a letter from the RTLU saying they have now taken over my records. Who are these and what do they do? I am assumimg I still have early discharge?

I also need to write to each of my creditors asking them to amend my credit files. I had a stay of advertisement so none of my creditors know my new address. How would I go about this?

Your case goes to the RTLU once the OR has finished with it and this is normally the time that you are discharged, either early or automatic. Check the Insolvency Register to see if you are shown as discharged but if the OR has said you are then you should be. Your details stay on the Register for 3 months after discharge so you should still be there.

You should also print a couple of copies of the Register showing you are discharged as some companies may want proof that you have been discharged if you want to upgrade your bank account from a basic account, etc. The other option is to pay the £60 fee and get a discharge certificate from the court that you were declared BR in.

When you contact your creditors just advise them that you have moved since you were declared BR. You can include the loan/CC account details to confirm they know which accounts you are talking about. You could also print off the details from your credit file.

Don't be surprised if you don't hear from the creditors straight away as they won't be in any hurry to update the records. There is a very good thread on another board (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=677875) that explains the procedure and how to chase the creditors if they don't update the records within a reasonable time frame.

Have you got an IPA? My case was passed to the RTLU, presumably because I've got an IPA as they deal with assets.

Thats the problem... how am I supposed to hear from the creditors if I am not to give my new address out for other reasons?

Definately discharged on the 20th March.

Hi Skippy, yes I have an IPA. So I just carry on as normal, pay my IPA each month and thats it?

That's what I've been doing. My IPA was reassessed in April and I had to contact the RTLU rather than the OR's office I originally dealt with and to be honest they were much more helpful.

I started writing to my creditors and most have updated my files, but to be honest I got bored!

4 weeks ago I emailed the RTLU about our early discharge. They confirmed that we would obtain early discharge as none of the creditors objected and that we would receive the discharge certificates within 2 weeks.

Still waiting ......

RLTU = Regional Trustee Liquidator Unit.

They are the one's who handle the case after the OR has finished with it. If you have been discharged then you are unlikely to hear from them unless you are paying an IPA, in which case you 'may' hear from them until the IPA has finished as they normally check the I&E when the case is passed to them.

Sleeplessnights - normally the discharge certificate costs £60 so I don't know if the RTLU would send this even if they said they would. Keep checking the Insolvency Register as this will show if/when you have been discharged.
