I now live in Canada, and early this year I paid an assisted bankruptcy service to handle bankruptcy proceedings for me back in the UK.
They have been paid, but are being very uncommunicative. I can never get hold of the person I need to speak to when I phone, and they never return my calls. They very rarely respond to emails - I haven't had a reply for a month now.
They told me 2.5 months ago that they would have a date for my LPA shortly, yet as far as I can tell, nothing is happening. I have been waiting for this LPA for 6 months now. Is that normal? Meanwhile, my creditors get nastier by the day.
These people are supposed to be on my side, but I am feeling somehwat abandoned by them. Does anyone have any advice about what I can do about this? |

Hi,
Have you been told that you are bankrupt? You can check the details on the Insolvency register:
http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/eiir/
If your name appears, then you are bankrupt and your creditors should not be contacting you at all. You should have had an interview with the Official Receiver, who will decide if you have to pay an IPA. Has this happened?
Can I ask you what company you used?

Thanks for responding.
No - I know I aren't bankrupt - the service haven't even sent me the actual bankruptcy forms yet, even though they said they would prepare them a month ago. As far as I know I am still waiting for the LPA to go through - but no-one there tells me anything. This is the crux of my problem.

I will answer that if I don't hear from them very shortly.

I'm sorry to be thick, but what is an LPA?

Lasting Power of Attorney. As I am in Canada, they need to apply for this in order to represent me in the bankruptcy proceedings. I was originally told they would have it cleared for April of this year.

Thanks - I was being very thick there!
Other than you keep trying to contact them, I don't really think there is anything else you can do.
It might help if you do name them as some of the professionals on here may know of them or be able to assist you.
