Hi LEE, probably the best thing to do is to have a read of this diary, from someone who is going through the same situation, as you can see there have been various ups and downs

Hi Lee

as debt info has suggested try and get some help for your gambling.

You will be able to go bankrupt, it is likely that you would receive a Bankruptcy Restriction Order.

Before you finally decide to take the plunge and opt for BR, how much longer will you be on reduced wages, if it is indefinate period then yes BR may be appropriate, if not their may be other options.

Barclays will continue to call until they have had enough and then they will sell the debt onto another company to chase you. they do not go away

If it is going to take you a few months to get your "house inorder" before going BR you may want to negotiate or get someone to negotiate with the bank.

can i suggest that you ring one of the experts to the left, as i believe that you will need to have your case presented properly to the OR in order to minimise the BRO

I used Paul and his team at Reviva and highly recomend making contact

good luck Lee

regards Richard

Hi Lee,

I declared myself bankrupt in Spring 2009 and about a quarter of my debts were due to gambling. I don't neccessarily think it is the amount you are in debt for, but the percentage of the overall debt that is down to gambling, that might affect whether you get a BRU or not. To be honest I thought I might end up with a BRU, but I am now discharged and didn't get one, so I consider myself lucky really. Saying that though, I did undergo counselling right from the beginning of my bankruptcy and I was banned from the local casino's in my area (not sure who arranged that, but it wasn't a self ban). I haven't gambled for a year now and although I can now see how pointless it was and how stupid I had been, I would like to be able to go to the casino with friends, if only to watch them play. I am in the process of asking the casino's if I can be allowed back in, but not sure whether they will accept me or not at this stage.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know what happened in my case. All the best.

Hi
Make sure you get some counselling first you need to prove that you have overcome your addiction to gambling or the judge may not allow you to go Bankrupt.
You may or may not get a BRU/O it depends on how well you write your statement of bankruptcy such as was the gambling just an addiction or did you gamble money to try and pay your bills etc

Best of Luck

Hi Lee

relax what has happened has happened.

The OR is understanding, what they will want to see is that you had a slight issue which may have contributed to you applying for Bankruptcy you have addressed that issue.

what they dont want to see is you back applying for bankruptcy again for the same reason.

GA is anonomous so the OR can only ask if you have had help or guidance, not how you have got on

your debts will not go away so take the brave step and start the bankruptcy procedure

good luck regards Richard
