If a loan is joint, in both spouses names, and bankruptcy is being considered, then I presume both spouses will need to declare bankrupt. Now obviously both people will share assets etc so would 2 separate bankruptcy motions be required or is there a "joint application"?

welcome to the forum
there are no joint applications
each person has to go BR separately
if one person is BR the joint debts fall onto the other so BR is quite often needed as you have said
