Hi, I was made bankrut 6 years ago and have checked my credit status online with Experian. The date of my bankruptcy was in May 2004 and I was discharged in October 2004. As this information only stays on your credit file for 6 years do I have to write to the credit agencies and ask them to clear it from my account? Which date does the 6 years start from?

Thanks for any help and advice you could give me with this as the last 6 years have been a nightmare and I really want to clear all this up.

Hi raj.x

I'm not an expert on credit files, but my guess would be that it would be 6 years from the discharge date

As far as I know it's 6 years from the date of the BR order.

It may take a little while to drop off your file, but it might be worth you contacting Experian to check.

Have you checked Equifax and Callcredit as well?

Will I have to correct my reports on all 3 of the agencies then?

Don't they talk to each other??

Nope, unfortunately not! You will need to correct any errors with all 3 agencies. They don't all hold the same information so you might not find all of your creditors on each report.

Whats the best way of doing this then?

I have an online Experian account and have written to them, so that fine.
I tried to join up with Equifax but their sign up process is so messed up I couldnt do it.
I havnt tried Call Credit. What is their online sign up process like? (If you know that is!)

Thanks for your replies by the way, I really appreciate them.
