Before I make a decision about bankruptcy I wondered if someone could give me advice about the after effect. I know it's on your record for something like 6-9 yrs after discharge but how does it effect the chance of a mortgage and bank account later on. I think if I remember right anything like that asks "Are you currently in a IVA or have you ever been made bankrupt".

You are correct in that the bankruptcy details will remain on your credit file for six years following the date of the bankruptcy order. Past this time it should not affect your ability to seek credit, but at the end of the day this is always down to the discretion of the individual lender.
